thistle, butterflies, and a hayfield

well, i was literally a day late in photographing the tractor sign in the queen anne's lace with the hay bales in the background.  i hate it when the mowers come!  argh!

i was still rewarded for my efforts, however.  i had no idea there would be so many butterflies dancing in the aging thistle on the side of the road.  i'm so glad i stopped for a closer view!

a shy beauty . . .

 peekaboo!

sorry for the swiftly tilting horizons.  the butterflies were just so exciting that i forgot to look at anything else.

i wanted to chase that swallowtail in the distance, but figured that the barbed wire fence was there for a reason.

i loved watching this little guy's proboscis curl down and up, down and up, down and up . . .

 friends.

unil next time!
